Web 3.0, here we come. January 13, 2007

CBS CEO Les Moonves has embraced Web 2.0 and social media. His keynote at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas this week is a defining moment for the Web video community and broadcast TV.

Moonves announced deals allowing users of SlingBox to mash up – cut and splice shows – at their own pleasure, and to air the best 15-second YouTube videos on CBS.

He intends to allow users to use CBS content in their own creations. YouTube is thinking of having its own TV shows and channel. This is on top of a current deal to run parts of CBS shows on a channel on YouTube.

We learned a lot watching what happened to the music industry with Napster, and we’d like to avoid those mistakes. Les Moonves

Will this propel Big TV into a new model of pushing content from couch potato mode to the mashup mode?
