Blogs are new and old, strange and familiar. So ubiquitous are blogs today they are hard to differentiate from their more static web site cousins. Blogging is publishing. Whether you are a professional journalist or an independent publisher, you need to know what laws apply when publishing via a Weblog.

As a blogger, you need to understand the legal issues you may confront and know you have rights. This will encourage you to blog freely knowing your legitimate speech is protected. The difference between you and a journalist is that you may not have the benefit of training or resources to help you determine whether what you’re doing is legal.

The Electronic Frontier Foundation offers this guide to help bloggers navigate the legal minefield.
