Social Networking for Journalists

Check out Wired Journalists, an online social network of journalists and students mobilized to teach and support each other. It’s created by Ryan Sholin of GateHouse Media using Ning, a free set of tools for rolling your own social network. The interface is somewhat clunky, but still does the job. Founded in October 2004, Ning powers “the largest number of social networks on the Internet.”
