Media tools have always been vital for the growth of movements for social change. They provide alternative information and channels through which movements organise. Each age harnesses the communications forms of the day to inspire and give voice to those who struggle for a better world.
EngageMedia is an online video sharing site distributing works about social justice and environmental issues in South East Asia, Australia and the Pacific that challenge the dominance of the mainstream media.
The non-profit produces a free software video distribution platform Plumi and conducts research on free software video technologies. Plumi is open source and available to implement and develop upon.
EngageMedia has also partnered with the OK.VIDEO Militia Jakarta International Video Festival of Indonesia to present online video training for video artists and participate in discussions about video activism. Watch videos from the festival here.
Thanks to Jay Dedman for pointing this out on the Rising Voices group.
